Today, more than 5 million Filipino students do not have school desks and chairs. They squat on the floor or sit on one-slab benches while in the classroom.
With no access to school desks and chairs, these children could hardly concentrate on their lessons nor take down notes. How then, can they perform better in school?
To contribute in providing a better learning environment and quality education to Filipino students, the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) revives the President Cory Aquino School Desk Project. This seeks to respond to the seating situation of elementary and high school students in public schools.
In its fifth year in 2007, this project has awarded 23,259 school desks to at least 120 public schools nationwide. Today, we will give seats to more students.
5-million-gap in student seats means 5 million children deprived of an environment conducive for learning.
Our target is to help 2,523 public elementary and high schools nationwide by providing their 486,303-seat need.
Donating a school desk to one student costs 880 pesos. A young mind’s chance to a better education counts on your compassion to provide a seat of support. While you may be sitting on a chair as you read this message, know that you are one click away from giving that possibility to one of our own.
